Norette Rene-Gougeon, MSW, RSW
Registered Social Worker
Hi and welcome. My name is Norette and I am a Registered Social Worker providing in person and virtual psychotherapy to adults living in Ontario. I completed my Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and have 15 years of experience working with individuals, families and couples in community mental health agencies and private practice settings.
I work with clients facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, parenting concerns, emotional dysregulation, low self esteem and life stage transitions. As every individual has a personal and unique history, I strive to create a safe space for my clients to share their story. In collaboration, my clients and I develop an understanding of the origins of their struggles and how they may be getting stuck in patterns of thinking or feeling that leaves them feeling disconnected or misunderstood. Together we create a plan to help shift old patterns that may no longer be aligned with your current stage of life and personal values.
With my experience in family therapy, I work with parents to explore their understanding of their children’s behaviours and the parent/child relationship with the goal of strengthening family bonds. I’m also passionate about providing family therapy for adult siblings. In this role, I provide support in understanding, interrupting and healing recurring unhealthy relationship patterns to develop healthier connections.
My approach to psychotherapy is strengths-based, non-judgemental, culturally sensitive, collaborative, client-centred and trauma informed. My practice is informed by Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Attachment Based Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Self Compassion and Mindfulness.
I welcome you to reach out for a consultation to see if we would be a good fit for your therapy needs.
