The NIHB program covers the cost of important health and mental health services to eligible First Nations and Inuit Peoples. Through Indigenous Services Canada, folks receive coverage for a wide range of services not included in OHIP or extended health care plans – such as mental health therapy. Every calendar year, those eligible can receive 22 counselling sessions with an authorized provider and the possibility to apply for more.
Any reason you might need mental health therapy is a good reason and will be covered through NIHB. Many people reach out for support with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, feeling stuck/stressed/overwhelmed, or even a sense of not feeling quite like themselves and wanting to embody who they truly are. We provide a variety of types of therapies that not only support the mind and emotions but also the body and spirit.
Treatment Overview/ Approach
Like most things, one size does not fit all. Therapy will be tailored to your unique needs, situation, strengths and goals.
While Bloor West Therapy does not have Indigenous psychotherapists currently on the team, we do have therapists registered with NIHB that have many years experience working within and alongside Toronto’s Indigenous community. You can expect a holistic approach blending Western mental health approaches and Indigenous teachings and ways of knowing – especially honouring what is important and meaningful to you.
The relationship is the most important part of any healing and with that, we welcome you to reach out for a free consultation to see if we are a good fit and what you are looking for.
